Mithreum was founded by a physicist and mother of three who is a problem solver by nature. After being forced out of the workplace by the financial demands of childcare, when the challenge of inventing something new and innovative in the cosmetic space was presented, she went to the home bench and got to work. After three years of hard work, dedication, and research, Mithreum was born. Mithreum is a revolutionary company whose products are patented, stable glycerin-in-oil emulsions.

Almost all creams and lotions on the market are oil-in-water emulsions and contain about 70% water. Water is not only dehydrating, as it just evaporates away, but it is just a vehicle for polar actives. Water is also a very reactive, oxidative species, thus making formulation of certain products difficult. In addition, its presence requires the use of added preservatives to prevent bacterial and fungal growth. So why does everything on the market contain water? Well, to be honest, it's a cheap filler that allows certain actives like glycerin and water soluble vitamins to be incorporated, and it is the only way to get what is considered a "cream."
